THE PERFECT GIG!
Saw the LiveStream version of the Rock Am Ring Gig yesterday and thought I'd write a review as I was blown away by the performance!
Waited for Good Charlotte and Evanescence to finish which were both painful performances.....! After some gibberish from a local German and another equally bad Ain't Talkin 'Bout Love version, Velvet Revolver came on stage ..... and my first obvious guess was right........ They opened with LET IT ROLL! A fast belter of a song which seemed to have no impact on the crowd that was earlier cheering Good Charlotte! AMAZING! Slash's solo wasn't that audible as he was playing very close to the crowd.....
The next song was Do It For The Kids, which I thought would be a tester for Scott Weiland but he showed me and every VR fan how much his vocal abilities have improved.... a perfect version of the song, I gotta say!
The next intro, now very familiar to us VR fans, kept us ready for the new song SHE MINE, groovy riff, catchy vocal lines and Scott looking out thorugh Duff's legs as Duff stood on the monitors! LOL!!!!!!! Yeah, it was perfect!
The next song which was their first song on Contraband, Sucker Train Blues, was a very tight performance and Duff was amazing on Bass! Scott was going great song after song!
The next song Vasoline, made me jump up given that I'm a big STP fan! Never got to listen to a clear version of this song whenever VR played it, but this time with the gr8 sound...... WOW! The VR touch to it and the improvisation at the latter part of the song was amazing with Scott going clean on the mic!
Scott then shouted out "Alright Now Sausage Fest! 2007!" ..... another million dollar moment! LOL!!!!!
What came next left me dazed as Scott said "The next song's from our last new album, last album if u've heard and it's called JUST 16!" Believe me, my jaws were wide open!!!! But then, Scott corrected himself and said "From our last album and it's called Fall To Pieces"...... yeah, a sigh of relief!!! Anyway, Slash sounded amazing during the solo! And the backup vocals and a very clear Scott, made this one song hard to forget!
The next song was JUST 16 and it's my personal favourite from Libertad. The point in the song where Slash goes "Well I'm Just Sixteen" was awesome and shown through the great vibe that these guys have going! The two solos in the song were mind-blowing to say the least! A killer of a song!!!
The next two songs were covers It's So Easy (GN'R) and Sex Type Thing (STP)..... whenever i've scanned through Youtube, I've always noticed lines reading "Leave this song to Axl! Leave every GN'R song to Axl!"... The guys who wrote that line were surely made to think twice and eat their words as Scott proved how amazing a vocalist he is! It kept me thinking.... "Bring any GN'R song at the table, and Scott can dig it!" Yeah, he's improved a lot! The Slash solo is what I love about the song, not to mention the line "It's F***in Easy!" VR puled it off GR8!!!
Sex Type Thing was the song that defined the concert for me as the intro by Scott made me feel real good and when the song went on to the interlude, VR gave it their rendition.... they made the song sound groovier and Scott kept shouting out words like "Motivation, give me Liberation, Stimulation......" and then the fast chorus line brought the song to a fitting end.
Next song in, the first single off Libertad, SHE BUILDS QUICK MACHINES was intense and catchy as ever, the perfect bridge leading into the Slash solo.... aah... priceless!! Racin Bloody Beautiful is how i describe this song! Slash gave us VR fans a replay of the solo too! LOL!!
Set Me Free, which has to be the best live song by VR ever, was perfect by its own right and what was great to see was that throughout the song Scott never used the megaphone which he used a lot (for this song) at previous Gigs! Slash's solo would have made a fan out of every Anti-VR guy present there! Only bad thing about this song was when the sound lowered a bit, in the middle...
Again two covers Psycho Killer (Talking Heads) and Mr. Brownstone, were out of this world! Psycho Killer was all about Scott while Mr. Brownstone was an awesome all rounder!
There were lotsa covers but each one was of the quality they deserve!
And like it is a lot through VR gigs these days.... Slither was the song that would bring to an end this perfect performance! This song left everyone asking for more, I'm sure! The solo was amazing and so was the hooting improvisation and so the song and the performance came to an end as scott left the megaphone on stage blowing the siren.... VR STYLE!
All in all, the first and best VR gig i've seen live! The setlist needed more new songs but hell, we got all the covers we love! Scott Weiland will definitely keep the critics silenced as he keeps proving how great a frontman he is and how far his vocal abilities stretch out.... great from start to finish! Slash.........Well...... he was just the usual Guitar God that he is! The quality support from Matt(awesome on STT), Duff (the basslines off-a Sucker Train Blues are still ringing in my head) and Dave ( Fantastic throughout!) just goes to show how tight and Pro a band they are!
